ECHORD++

Dear representatives of the municipal bodies,

the aim of this questionnaire is to identify and describe the potential challenges your city is currently facing and which can be solved with the help of robotics technologies.

If you have any questions or feedback, please contact Francesco Maurelli at maurelli@in.tum.de.

2.Description of a potential challenge

Here is the description of the 7 potential challenges which can be solved with robotics technologies.

Challenge 1. Improving the management, planning and urban cities observations.
Possible aims: use of aero robots in the management, planning and urban city knowledge; to innovate monitoring system applied to urban bus lines to monitor origin, destination and sustainable mobility modes.

Challenge 2. Personalized mobility support for pedestrian areas.
Possible aims: to create a system or service that will guide the transport and mobility through the neighbourhood. This system must be integrated into the pedestrian area of the new city model raised;
to contribute to the downtown urban life revitalisation, improving the existing personalised transport as a key issue to connect activities and people;
to select and apply the best mobility solution that can assure an effective role in the down-town.

Challenge 3. Goods distribution technology to improve local retail.
Possible aims: to create a sustainable system to make the distribution from the neighbourhood warehouse to each commerce. This robotic system must be integrated in the pedestrian areas of new neighbourhoods.

Challenge 4. Automatic detection and road surface damage warning.
Possible aims: to find a solution that can gather data and analyse the asphalt paving surfaces, road, cycle and pedestrian areas across the whole city.

Challenge 5. Utilities infrastructure condition monitoring.
Possible aims: to mechanise sewer inspections in order to reduce the labor risks, objectify sewer inspections and optimise sewer cleaning expenses of the city.

Challenge 6. Planning and information of urban accessible routes.
Possible aims: the realisation of LAND ROBOT proto-type, as the basis for a battery of them deployed around the city taking mobility accessibility data with reference that are inherent in the development of the Planner.

Challenge 7. Environmental monitoring and control.
Possible aims: to deploy a robotic collaborative network and mitigating the presence of air pollutants (including pollen), as well as odours that may be unpleasant to citizens.

3.Describe the challenge: How important is each challenge in your city?
